Reaction to the Soul of Communication
Based by the article, it first states how poor communication in organisations has resulted in massive losses monetary. From a 2008 whitepaper, it was estimated that poor communication and misunderstandings cost businesses US$37 Billion in the US and UK. Another whitepaper from the Project Management Institute's Pulse research further strengthens the case, stating that for every US$ 1 Billion spent on a project, US$75 million is at risk due to ineffective communication.
The article continues, giving a picture of how critical thinking correlates with communication. Critical thinking is the engine, while communication is the motion where information and thoughts flow. Each communication starts with a thought, which results in a thought process. Critical thinking is the tool to process the thought. Therefore Critical thinking breeds clarity of thought.
As how communication and thinking will impact my future role as a leader in the workplace. I'm seeing how these two correlated skills are essential in the workplace, as teams might be formed with people from many different disciplines. To add on, Critical thinking shouldn't be used only when it is needed. A constant pursuit of critical thinking will ensure all reasoning and argument are worthwhile and useful. Ambiguity in communication will be also eliminated.
